About Us

MADCAA is an acronym for Makadara Campaign Against AIDS We are a  community-based organization working in Kenya's informal settlements existing only to respond to one of the most urgent challenges in our communities: girls forced to drop out of school due to poverty, early pregnancy, and social vulnerability. Too often, these young mothers face stigma, economic hardship, and limited access to education—trapping them and their children in cycles of poverty.

MADCAA Business Model

MADCAA exists to offer Ecde Education  to the Adolescent girls out of school  due to early pregnancies while ensuring that those already affected  with Hiv/aids are supported to live healthy, dignified lives. Over the past decade, we have worked with Public Health Officers and Community Health Workers to deliver integrated support, enroll HIV‑positive girls and their babies in PMTCT programs, provide psychosocial and early childhood development care, fight stigma, and return adolescent mothers to school.

Impact & Evidence:

Education & School Retention in Kenya

  • National estimates show over one million children in informal settlements lack access to quality early childhood education.
  • Evidence from community-based ECDE programmes indicates school readiness and transition rates of 80–90%.
  • Learners entering senior secondary pathways face challenges from weak literacy, poverty, inadequate mentorship, and limited support systems.

Adolescent Mothers & Girls’ Education

  • Around 15% of Kenyan girls aged 15–19 have begun childbearing.
  • Many adolescent mothers do not return to school without structured psychosocial, family, and community support.
  • Re-enrollment programmes with mentorship and follow-up have improved return-to-school rates by over 60%.
  • MADCAA’s community approach strengthens educational continuity, mentorship, and reintegration for vulnerable girls and young mothers in informal settlements.

Child Health & Immunization

  • Immunization coverage in informal settlements remains below national averages due to poverty, healthcare barriers, and limited awareness.
  • Delayed healthcare access contributes to preventable child illnesses and mortality.
  • Community Health Promoters are vital for household outreach, referrals, immunization awareness, and last-mile service delivery.

Community & Economic Context

  • Over 60% of Nairobi’s population lives in informal settlements with poverty, unemployment, and limited public services.
  • Youth unemployment is especially high among young women, increasing risks of dropout, exploitation, and instability.
  • Integrated community-based programmes combining education, health, mentorship, and economic empowerment improve efficiency, reduce duplication, and strengthen resilience.

We believe education restores dignity, expands opportunity, and secures a brighter future for both mother and child.

  • Community awareness campaigns and education sessions
  • Sexual and reproductive health education
  • Promotion of safe practices and stigma reduction
  • Encouraging HIV testing and counseling

We work to ensure adolescent mothers have accurate information and access to essential health services.

Economic Activities for Sustainability & Institutional Continuity

To ensure long-term impact and organizational stability, MADCAA (Makadara Campaign Against AIDS) operates strategic income-generating activities that support program sustainability and reduce overreliance on donor funding. These initiatives not only generate operational income but also create practical learning and employment opportunities for the young mothers we serve.

1. Printing of ECD Learner Charts & Educational Materials

MADCAA produces and distributes high-quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) learner charts and educational materials tailored for local schools, childcare centers, and community learning spaces.

Our printing unit:

  • Designs and prints curriculum-support charts for early learners
  • Produces literacy and numeracy visual aids
  • Supplies affordable learning materials to community schools
  • Supports local education institutions with customized printing solutions

This initiative strengthens early childhood education while generating revenue to sustain MADCAA’s core programs.

2. Basic Computer & Digital Services

To respond to growing digital needs within the community, MADCAA provides affordable basic computer and digital services, including:

  • Typing and document formatting
  • Photocopying, printing, and scanning
  • CV and cover letter preparation
  • Online application assistance (school, jobs, government services)
  • Basic computer literacy support

These services serve the wider community while offering hands-on digital skills exposure and training opportunities for adolescent mothers enrolled in our empowerment programs.

3. Skills Development Through Enterprise

Our income-generating activities also function as:

  • Practical training platforms
  • Internship opportunities for beneficiaries
  • Business and entrepreneurship learning spaces

By integrating social enterprise with community service, MADCAA strengthens institutional continuity while building the economic resilience of the young mothers we support.

Through these sustainable economic activities, MADCAA advances a self-reliant model—where impact is not only funded but also generated from within the community we serve.
